Looe & Polperro

The picturesque town of Looe close to the Devon boarder is a tranquil haven for holidaymakers. The town nestles on either bank of the river estuary, joined by a stone bridge under which the combined East and West Looe rivers flow.

The town is typical of a Cornish fishing port, with narrow winding streets threading between cottages which have changed little in outward appearance since they were built. Although much declined, the fishing industry is still a part of the town and most days present an opportunity for visitors to observe boats entering and leaving the harbour as well as local catch being landed.

The continuing reliance on the sea perhaps accounts for many of the fine dishes which can be sampled in local restaurants and pubs with the ingredients being as fresh as you will ever taste! The choice of eateries is ideal for groups on a self catering holiday who fancy a break from cooking.

Looe has something to offer guests of all ages and interests. The sandy beach, in a sheltered location, provides a safe, fun environment for beach lovers and budding civil engineers. For the more pro-active, the sheltered waters of the river offer opportunities to try out a variety of watersports including sailing and kayaking.

For a more laid-back approach, Looe is an ideal location in which to take things easy, soak up the sun and watch the boats out on the water (perhaps whilst sipping a glass of wine) from the comfort of dry land.

With all that it has to offer, tearing yourself away from the town might be an effort, but Looe is very well placed as a base of exploration of Cornwall and South Devon. Plymouth is only a short drive away and day trips to Dartmoor, Torquay, Paignton or the Eden Project are within comfortable distance.

The Geography of Cornwall is such that you can easily travel from the south coast to the north in search of different beaches and coastal towns.

The nearby port of Polperro is every bit as charming as Looe. A favourite with artists of all disciplines, Polperro hosts a thriving annual arts festival which continues to grow each year. The small port is the starting point for both site seeing and fishing boat trips offering a different perspective on the local scenery.

Polperro has stunning stretches of coast path running in either direction from it and, on returning from a walk, visitors will find warm hospitality in the pubs, cafes and restaurants in the town.

Looe and Polperro make a perfect base from which to enjoy a unique self catering holiday either as a couple or with your family.
